Barbara A. Potter

WOOLWICH – Barbara A. Potter, 80, of Barley Neck Road died Monday, Oct, 24, 2022, at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.

She was born in Attleboro, Mass. on Aug. 4, 1942, daughter of Charles W., Sr. and Barbara (Kenerson) Wilmarth.

Barbara graduated from Attleboro High School in 1960 and the University of Maine, Orono in 1964 with a B.S. in Medical Technology. On June 17, 1967, she married William “Bill” D. Potter, her husband of 55 years. After college, Barbara was employed in the laboratory at Maine Medical Center and then at the Merrymeeting Medical Group in Brunswick.

In 1969 Barbara left the workforce to become a stay-at-home mother. Although no longer employed, Barbara remained active, volunteering with the American Red Cross, the Girl Scouts, at Woolwich Central School, the Town of Woolwich, and at the Maine Maritime Museum. Once the children were older, Barbara returned to the workforce as the Museum’s membership secretary until her retirement in 2006 after 31 years with the museum. She was an active member, and past president, of the local Beta Sigma Phi chapter, XI Beta, as well as the Topsham-Brunswick Chapter of the DAR, where she was a past Regent.

When not busy working or volunteering, Barbara enjoyed traveling with Bill, visiting China, Turkey, and Taiwan. She also enjoyed attending her children’s and grandchildren’s activities, sporting events and artistic endeavors; and spending time with friends. Most of all, Barbara enjoyed being with her family in Maine, Massachusetts, and her beloved Prudence Island in Rhode Island.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Bill of Woolwich; a daughter, Deborah Cashman and her husband, Matthew of West Bath, a son, Matthew Potter and his wife, Sasha of Walpole, Mass.; her brothers Charles Wilmarth Jr. of Warwick, R.I. and John “Jack” Wilmarth of Attleboro, Mass.; a nephew, Ken Wilmarth of Warwick, R.I.; and her six grandchildren, Molly, Fionna, Colleen, Mischa, Davis and Travis.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 3 at Daigle Funeral Home, 819 High St., Bath. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Bath. A gathering of family and friends will be held at Maine Maritime Museum after the burial service for refreshments and sharing of memories.
