Edward Anthony Reidman

WESTBROOK – Edward Anthony Reidman, 83, died after a short illness on Oct. 29, 2022, at a Portland health care facility.

Ed was born Feb. 25, 1939, in Lewiston, the son of the late Edward Joseph and Ellen (Reardon) Reidman. Ed graduated from Deering High School, class of 1957. After graduation, he attended the U.S. Naval Academy briefly and then graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Maine at Orono. While at Orono, Ed played football as a Maine Black Bear. He then went on to play semi-professional football for the Portland Sea Hawks in 1962. Although he worked as an engineer in many locations on the West and East Coast, Ed was always a Mainer at heart. He returned to become the City Engineer for the City of Westbrook in 1972.

He then became the Director of PACTS with CCGC and eventually retired from a position as City Engineer for the City of South Portland. In retirement, Ed continued to contribute to the community by serving on the Sewer Commission and as Chair of the City of Westbrook Planning Board for 24 years with his term set to end in December 2022. He was also active in selling real estate, most recently with Keller Williams Realty.

Throughout his life, he was passionate about sports (including football, basketball, and baseball), loved to sail and ski, enjoyed skinny dipping in the hot tub or pool, was always ready for a game of gin rummy, and could often be found alternating between watching crime series and Hallmark movies on television. He loved spending time with family and dear friends, at holidays, on dine-around, and during vacations.

In addition to his wife of 32 years, Judith Marlene (Bucklin) Reidman, Ed is survived by his son, Timothy Reidman and his wife, Marie, his daughter, Elisabeth Reidman, his son, Daniel Reidman and his wife, Heidi; his stepson, Stephen Verrill and his wife, Diane, his stepson, Richard Verrill and his wife, Patricia, and his stepdaughter, Jennifer Verrill Schurman and her husband, Corey; seven grandchildren, Hannah Reidman, Delaney (Kenny) Hill and Rory Kenny, Isabelle and Finn Reidman, Amanda, Richard, and Jessica Verrill, Rhys and Gemma Schurman; three great-grandchildren, Dominick, Carter, and Vanessa; one brother, Patrick Reidman; and many extended family members.

The family thanks the staff of Northern Lights Mercy Hospital for the loving care Ed received while there.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 4 at Brooklawn Memorial Park, 2002 Congress St., Portland, with the Reverend Leslie Foley officiating. To leave condolences to the family or sign Ed’s guest book, please visit, http://www.dolbyblaissegee.com
