Robert G. “Whit” Whitmore

MARIANNA, Fla. – Robert G. “Whit” Whitmore died Nov. 5, 2022, at his home in Marianna, Fla. Bob previously lived in the Portland, Maine area for most of his life, moving to Marianna in 2016 to be near his children and families.

Bob was born in Portland on Dec. 8, 1957, to Herbert J. and Helen G. Stanhope Whitmore. He attended Portland schools and graduated from Portland High School in 1975. He has many lifelong friends from the neighborhood and from his school years.

Bob began working in the auto painting business following high school. He worked for Team Collision in Portland for many years and for Hewitt’s Auto Body and Collision in Yarmouth for 26 years. Bob earned a well-respected reputation as a painter of cars in his employment and for specialty painting on restored vehicles at the request of owners. Most interesting to his family, he was sought after for painting guitars for musicians in the Portland area!

Bob was predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Helen Whitmore of Portland; his grandson River Standland of Greenwood, Fla.; his niece Amy Lynn Whitmore of Hampton, NH; and his brother-in-law Chris A. Murphy of Portland.

He will be dearly missed by his children, Robert B. Whitmore and his wife Melody of Westlake, Ohio, Jonathan C. Whitmore of Marianna, Fla., and Nicole M. and her husband J. Travis Standland of Greenwood, Fla.; and his grandchildren Trenton Whitmore of Westlake, Ohio, Cue Wood, Thatcher Wood, and Anna Standland of Greenwood, Fla.

He will be lovingly remembered by his brothers, Paul and his wife Karen Whitmore of Hampton, NH, Gary Whitmore of South Portland, and by his sisters, Elaine and her husband Larry Edwards, Janice Murphy, and Donna and her husband Rick Towle, all of Portland. He will also be lovingly remembered by his many nieces and nephews, cousins, and by his many friends.

No Services are planned at this time. Memorialization will be by cremation with the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
