Patricia Halpin

PORTLAND – Patricia Halpin, 87, of Portland, died in Estero, Fla. on Nov. 9, 2022.

Patricia O’Connor grew up in Portland, the daughter of Evelyn G. O’Connor and Timothy J. O’Connor. She attended “The Academy” (Catherine McAuley High School) and subsequently attended Boston College, majoring in elementary education and graduating in 1957 in the first class with women graduates.

Pat married Richard “Dick” J. Halpin in 1957 and raised their family in Falmouth where they were a part of the close knit community of the schools and Holy Martyrs parish.

Pat’s professional career began by teaching first graders in North Conway, N.H. while Dick taught at nearby Fryburg Academy. When Dick got a teaching job at Falmouth High School, they relocated to Falmouth and Pat began selling real estate with Barry Steele. She was proud of her slip-on Bean boots as she tramped out in the woods selling various properties. She later worked for Peterson Realty for many years. In the early 1980s, Pat and two of her closest friends, became the founding partners of the successful catering business, Hors D’oeuvres Unlimited, where they catered many lovely cocktail parties and wedding celebrations.

After all of their children had graduated college, Pat and Dick were able to enjoy some travel time, and enjoyed trips to California, including San Francisco and Napa Valley. They also traveled to their time share on Marco Island, Fla. every April for two weeks of sunshine. They loved beating the Maine summer by eight weeks and enjoyed the sun and sand of southwest Florida.

After becoming a widow in 1993, Pat travelled more extensively, and added European adventures to her newly begotten passport, as well as other U.S. and Mexican destinations, often with one or more of her children by her side.

Surviving are her five children, Mary Beth Halpin of Red Hook, N.Y., Deborah Halpin (Richard Fearon) of Estero, Fla., Timothy Halpin (Cynthia Lyons) of Gorham, Carol Ann Harrison (George) of Denver, Colo. and Julie E. Pearson (Joseph) of Fort Myers, Fla. Pat particularly enjoyed her six grandchildren, Thaley and spouse, Trevor Donoghue, Jake Halpin, Connor Pearson, Jameson Pearson and spouse, Haley Lovejoy and Kathryn and Evelyn Harrison. Pat was also blessed with her first great-granddaughter, Adelyn, in 2021. All the grands called Pat “Gi”, and she loved them all dearly.
