William King Kendrick

SCARBOROUGH – William King Kendrick, 75, of Scarborough, passed away peacefully on Nov. 16, 2022 of natural causes with family by his side.

He was born in Portland to James F. and Anna (King) Kendrick. He was raised in Bellmore, Long Island, N.Y., but lived most of his life in Portland. He graduated from Mepham High School and SUNY Potsdam where he wrestled, played football, and became a member of Sigma Tau Psi fraternity. He went on to obtain an MBA from the University of Maine.

During his life, his thirst for knowledge made him an avid reader, and he especially loved world history. He enjoyed traveling, the outdoors, and the theater. He also had a broad and eclectic appreciation of music and studied several foreign languages.

William served in the U.S. Navy and spent time as a Federal Air Marshall. He was a Veterans Administration Representative and a substitute teacher. He retired after many years in banking, working as a Federal Bank Examiner and a Portfolio Loan Review Officer. He spent time as a member of the vestry and a youth group advisor at Trinity Episcopal Church in Portland and sat on the Board of Directors of Habitat for Humanity.

William was predeceased by his parents; his brother, James M., his sister, Judith A. Mezzacappo and her husband, Gerard.

He is survived by his wife, Judith (Girard) Kendrick; his children Michael and Anna, the lights of his life, their mother, Janice (Cooke) Kendrick; his brother, Martin E. and his wife, Sue Kendrick of Florida; and many beloved sisters and brothers-in-law; cousins; nieces and nephews; and an abundance of friends. His love and kindness will be missed by all who knew him.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, Dec. 15 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be said at the funeral home on Friday, Dec. 16 at 10 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 580 Forest Ave., Portland. All are welcome to attend.
