CAPE PORPOISE – Marie Avis Campbell, 90, a longtime resident of Cape Porpoise and active community member, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2022, at Ledgewood Manor in Windham following a period of failing health.

She was born Nov. 22, 1931, in Sanford, one of nine children born to Melvin and Marie (Russell) Floyd. She graduated from Sanford High School, class of 1950. Marie worked for many years at the U.S. Post Office in Cape Porpoise. 

Marie married Dana Campbell in 1951 and they celebrated 65 years together until Dana’s passing in 2016.

Marie and Dana enjoyed road trips together and family gatherings. Marie was a member of Church on the Cape and often volunteered to support its many activities. She was most recently recognized as a 65-year member of the church. She was also a member of Aurora Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star in Kennebunkport.

Recently, Marie has lived with her sister Helen in Standish, where she regularly attended Standish Congregational Church, and was a member of the Standish Senior Citizens. 

Marie is dearly remembered by her sister Helen Hebert of Standish, and numerous nieces and nephews as well as friends and the congregation of Church on the Cape.

Friends may visit on 10 to 11 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2022, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m., at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk. Interment will follow at Arundel Cemetery. Pastor Sammi Maxwell will officiate.
