Lenora A. Foley

PORTLAND – Lenora A. Foley, 83, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on Feb. 8, 2023, following a brave fight with cancer.

Lenora (Maietta) Foley was born in Portland on April 5, 1939, to Saveria (Teneriello) Maietta and Aniello Maietta. She graduated from Portland High School and enjoyed a 45-year career as a patient accounts specialist at Maine Medical Center.

At the age of 19, she married Peter M. Foley after meeting at Higgins Beach, and went on to have five children. Lenora was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She lived a full life centered around her friends and family enjoying time at the beach and lake, maintaining a strong faith in her church, and solving all the crossword and Wheel of Fortune puzzles. Her husband, children, 12 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren adored her and looked up to her strength, kindness, and ability to always see the very best in people. Her tenth grandchild, Lenora “Leni” Ascanio, is arriving in March, and while she won’t get the chance to meet her namesake and great-grandmother, she will always know her love and strength.

Lenora is survived and missed by her loving husband, Peter, of 64 years; and her children, Serena A. Ascanio, Kevin M. Foley and his spouse Lea Foley, Peter M. Foley Jr., Maria E. Foley, and daughter-in-law Trina Foley. Forever cherished and remembered by her sisters Eleanor and Mary; and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lenora was predeceased by four brothers, James, Philip, Dominic, and Louis, and three sisters, Maisy, Carmella, Caroline; son, Philip J. Foley; and grandson, Anthony S. Ascanio.

The family would like to thank her wonderful doctors at Intermed and New England Cancer Specialists as well as the compassionate care she received with Hospice of Southern Maine.

A wake will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 14 at A.T. Hutchins, 660 Brighton Ave., Portland from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday Feb. 15 at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Old Calvary Cemetery in South Portland.
