Marc Eugene Ledue
SCARBOROUGH – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our brother and friend, Marc Eugene Ledue. Marc passed away surrounded by his loving family at the Gosnell House after a brief and courageous battle with Pancreatic cancer.
Marc, born in Portland, was a twin, to his sister Mary, and together we were the youngest of 10 children born to Frances T. Nixon Ledue and Herbert A. Ledue .
Marc attended Deering High School and graduated from Job Corp in Vergennes, Vt.
Marc held many jobs throughout his life; the most important and purposeful to him was that of a caregiver to his client and friend, Kay. Marc proudly served as a part of Kay’s care team for over 10 years until her passing.
Marc often expressed that he felt different, less able to cope with anxiety and the thoughts in his head. It was later in life that Marc was diagnosed with a debilitating mental illness that affected every aspect of his life. His mental illness created challenges in his relationships and his ability to be the father, brother and friend that he dreamed of being. For this, Marc had great regret.
Marc was grateful to have support over the years from Catholic Charities, Amistad and The Shalom House in Portland. Most importantly, Marc was eternally grateful for the unconditional support and care he received from Anne Scollen and Dr. Liz Frutiger from Community Health. Marc loved his visits with these two individuals.
Marc loved Portland. He had compassion for the marginalized population of the city. He felt a belonging to and acceptance from this community and spent many a sleepless night wandering the city street with gloves, hats, blankets, food, a smoke, a bit of conversation and a warm smile. “Hey, I see you”, he would think. He didn’t have much, but he wanted to help.
Marc will be remembered as a gifted writer and artist. He sent loving texts to his family. He created beautiful framed flower pressings and was known to leave them on the porch stoops of people he loved. Around the city he left words of wisdom on scraps of wood and paper seeking justice for the poor and homeless.
Marc was predeceased by his lifelong friends Billy and Joey; his ex-wife, Sharon Meunier, mother to his two children; his parents; his older brothers Jim, Bobby, George and John Ledue; his niece, Megan and nephew, Anthony; and many special Ledue and Nixon grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Marc is survived by his son, Marc Ledue ll and his wife Jen Ledue and grandson, Marc Ledue lll of Chaplin, Conn.; his daughter, Jessica Ledue Duggan, her husband Dan Duggan, grandson, Robert James Maynard and expected grandson, Finley of Enfield, Conn.
Marc treasured his Mum, idolized his five brothers and adored his four sisters. He will be sadly missed by his remaining siblings Mike and his wife Connie of Texas, his sisters Cathie and Francie of Portland; his sister, Annemarie and her husband Brian of South Portland, his twin sister, Mary and her husband Tom of Limerick; his aunt, Shirley Casey and uncle, Arthur Ledue; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Lastly, he leaves behind a great many friends from Shalom House, an independent living apartment, his last community of people who accepted and befriended Marc, especially Jules and Nancy and their sweet pup, Lupe Loo. Nancy and Jules were loyal friends til the end.
Marc’s family is forever grateful for the compassionate care team of Phil, Kim, Lydia, Dave, Megan, Louise and Dr. Fernando Moreno at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House of Southern Maine.
Services will be private amongst his immediate family.
