Edna A. Day

SANFORD – Edna A. Day went on to her heavenly reward on the afternoon of Feb. 7, 2023, surrounded by her family at Gosnell Home in Scarborough. She was born on Sept. 21, 1943, in Bangor, the daughter of the late Frederick P. and Esther K. (Morrison) Day of Milo.

Educated in Milo Schools and graduated from Higgins Classical Institute in Charleston, Edna went on to earn a nursing degree and graduating in January 1961 at the Maine School of Practical Nursing now known as the University of Maine in Presque Isle. Always working the night shift, Edna worked at nursing facilities along the coast of Maine and settling in Sanford where she took care of Henry and Nellie Connors, friends of the Day family, until their respective passings in 1991 and 1994. Afterwards, Edna worked at nursing facilities in greater Sanford area and retired from Huntington Commons in Kennebunk.

Edna was predeceased by her parents; uncles and aunts; a cousin, John Vose; a special family friend, Ellen Simpson; and a beloved dog, Punky.

Edna is survived by her cat, Buster; her sister, Kay Day of Bangor, her brother, Dale and his spouse Dennis Ouellette of Saco; cousins Ralph and Elizabeth Vose and their son Marc and his wife Cheryl, all of Somersworth, N.H.; and Susan Vose of Copperas Cove, Texas; along with many dear and treasured friends from the Sanford First Baptist Church, the Trafton Senior Center and neighbors in Sanford.

Visitation will be held at Sanford First Baptist Church, 905 Main St., Sanford, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18, followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. to be concelebrated (at Edna’s request) by Reverend Philip Bean, Pastor of Sanford First Baptist Church and The Rev. Andrew D’Angio White, Rector of St. David’s Episcopal Church of Kennebunk. You are invited, if you wish, to please come dressed in blue – Edna’s favorite color. The funeral service will be live streamed via the Black Funeral Home website – https://blackfuneralhomes.com/.

A collation will follow in the Great Hall at the Church. At the family’s convenience and at a later date, Edna’s cremains will be buried in the Morrison Family plot with her parents, grandparents, and aunts at Oak Grove Cemetery, Bangor. Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes and cremation service, Sanford-Springvale.
