BIDDEFORD — Longtime municipal planner David Galbraith has been named Biddeford City Planner and will serve as deputy director of the Planning and Development Department.
Galbraith was contracted as Biddeford’s interim planner in a consultant role in November and joined the city as a full-time employee Feb. 21.
“With the number of exciting projects planned and underway within the community, Biddeford is the place to be right now and a place where I can help make a positive difference in the community,” Galbraith said in a news release issued by the city. “Biddeford’s staff have been a great group of professionals to collaborate with, and I am looking forward to continuing to work alongside them.”
Galbraith holds a master’s degree in urban and regional planning from the University of Illinois and brings 28 years of municipal planning experience to Biddeford, said city spokeswoman Danica Lamontagne. He has been director of Planning & Permitting Services for the city of Auburn and zoning administrator for the town of Gorham. Since 2019, Galbraith has provided municipal planning consulting services to Southern Maine Planning and Development Commission and Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments.
Greg Mitchell, Biddeford’s director of Planning and Development, said he was pleased to offer Galbraith a permanent role in the department.
“I have worked with David before when we worked for the cities of Lewiston and Auburn. He is a solution-oriented municipal planner with over twenty years of municipal planning experience in similar-sized communities in Maine,” Mitchell said. “I look forward to working with him to advance positive economic growth in Biddeford.”
As city planner, Galbraith is responsible for all aspects of planning board meetings, planning applications, and the city’s land use and zoning regulations.
