David Lewis Phillips Sr. MD

SCARBOROUGH -The family of David Lewis Phillips, Sr., MD is sad to announce his passing on Feb. 9, 2023 at the age of 85 at Piper Shores in Scarborough.

Born in Rumford, David was the son of Kenneth and Margaret Rafuse Phillips. He graduated from Stephens High School, Bates College and Tufts University School of Medicine..

David was married to his high school sweetheart Janice Marie Soule for 67 years.

David served stateside in the U.S. Medical Army Corp. Reserves as Captain from 1964-1971. He completed his General Surgery training at the Maine Medical Center and had a General and Vascular surgery practice in Rumford for 22 years. He was past President of the Maine Medical Association and the New England Surgical Society. He then practiced Surgical Hair restoration for Bosley Medical Group in locations around the country and Boston, Mass. for 23 years.

David enjoyed reading, fishing, skiing, traveling, watching football and basketball, restoring antique cars and listening to Willie Nelson.

David is survived by his wife Janice S. Phillips of Scarborough; his son David L. Phillips II, MD and partner Katherine Wood of Scarborough, his daughters Dawn Mary Phillips Cyr and husband Kevin Cyr of Freeport, Deana S. Phillips and fiance Marlon Contreras of Enfield, Conn.; his grandchildren David L. Phillips, III and wife Jillian of Falmouth, Lauren (Mavi) Phillips of Standish, K. Jesse Cyr of Freeport, Calen Cyr of Williston, Vt., Thomas Cyr of Freeport, and Nathaniel Cyr of Freeport; his brother Douglas M. Phillips and wife Davey Paiva of So. Lake Tahoe, Calif., his sisters Linda Phillips-Miller and husband James of Fishers, Ind. and Margaret (McGee) Phillips of Tucson, Ariz.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents; and his brothers Donn K. Phillips and Dean L. Phillips.

David’s family will hold a dinner in his honor as family gatherings at his home were a great source of joy in his life. Any other gathering has yet to be determined.
