We’re looking for a rotating group of writer/cooks for a new food column in the Portland Press Herald slated to begin in August.

We seek Mainers whose home cooking represents a variety of cuisines and types of households. Each column will focus on one dish and include the recipe, a photo and about 500 words on the place of that dish in the writer’s life/family/kitchen.

We need people who are good home cooks, can write clean, compelling copy and can meet deadlines. The recipe needn’t be original, but if it’s not, you’ll need to credit the source.

If you’re interested, please email a sample column, one that has not previously been published, to Peggy Grodinsky, food editor, at pgrodinsky@pressherald.com. Also, please tell us a bit about who you usually cook for, your style in the kitchen, your favorite cooking tool, etc. The deadline is May 30.
