Robert Peter Gieringer
VENICE, Fla. – Robert Peter Gieringer “Bobby G”, 73, of Venice, Fla. and Gray, passed away Jan. 17, 2023 at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Venice, Fla., surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Robert was born on Oct. 9, 1949 in Portland to Francis Thomas Gieringer and Mary Edna Gieringer (Chaisson). He grew up in Westbrook and attended Westbrook High School, where he enjoyed running track. Robert worked at Valley’s, Maria’s, and John Martens. After high school, Robert served in the Navy and the Air Force. He returned back to the states where he started working at SD Warren for almost 40 years.
He met his beautiful bride, Sharon Kay Thome in 1977 and they were married Oct. 6, 1978 at Sacred Heart Church in Adams, Minn.. Robert and Sharon moved to Portland to start their life together and had their son, Nicholas Alex Gieringer. Robert, Sharon, and Nicholas moved to Robert’s dream home on Little Sebago Lake 15 years later.
Robert blessed all of us with so many memories always willing to help friends and family. Robert enjoyed spending time with his family at the lake house, including his annual lobster cookouts, boat rides, tubing, roasting marshmallows, and watching everyone enjoy the beauty of the lake. These memories will always be held near and dear to the hearts of his family members. Robert spent his spare time hunting and fishing mostly in his favorite spot, Moosehead Lake.
Shortly after retirement, Robert and Sharon became snowbirds and moved to Punta Gorda and then Venice, Fla. where they spent the winters enjoying karaoke, country night dancing while making memories with friends.
Robert would like you all to remember his favorite quote, he used it often, “Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff.”
He was predeceased by his parents; aunt and uncles.
He is survived by his devoted loving wife of 44 years, Sharon Thome Gieringer; their son, Nicholas, daughter-in-law, Nikki; granddaughters, Emma and Hailey Gieringer of Gray; brothers Francis Gieringer and his wife Cheryl of Dallas, Ore., Richard Gieringer and Patty Desantis of Lakewood Ranch, Fla., sister, Rosemary Faley and husband Todd of Old Orchard Beach. Carol Lee Levesque and husband Scott of Cumberland; several nieces, nephews; aunts; stepfather, Gordon Cich, and stepmother, Linda Gieringer.
Visitation will be held Thursday Aug. 10, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., a memorial service will be held Friday Aug. 11 at 11 a.m. with a graveside service to follow at Hillside Cemetery in Gorham. Visitation and service will be held at Dolby, Blais, Segee Funeral Home, 434 River Rd., Windham.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to Sharon Gieringer and will be presented to Maine Veterans Home in South Paris. There will be a motorcycle ride to present the check on July 9, all who want to come should meet at the Gray park and ride at 9 a.m. All are welcome, motorcycles not required.
