Bonnie Baltes

WINDHAM – Bonnie Baltes, 80, of Windham passed away peacefully at the Gosnell House in Scarborough on the evening of April 14, 2023. Born August 3, 1942, in Limington, Maine she was the second of three daughters born to Kenneth and Elinor Edgecomb.

Bonnie came from a long line of farmers and lumber industry workers in the Limington area. She grew up on a chicken farm where her father operated a hatchery and later served as a Limington town selectman and building inspector while her mother worked as town clerk for many years. As a child she was fond of horses, particularly her beloved family horse “Trigger”.

She was a 1960 graduate of Gorham High School and served as Queen of the Prom in her senior year. She would go on to attend Burdett College of Business and Shorthand in Boston, Mass. where she was a student in the School of Secretarial Science. Upon completing her studies she worked as a secretary at Bonny Eagle High School and Travelers Insurance before moving to California to work for IBM. She returned to Maine in the late 1960’s where she developed a love of downhill skiing, especially at Sugarfoaf Mountain, in the years before starting a family.

She had a great sense of humor, always laughing at herself or trying to provoke a smile with her quiver of quirky sayings. She delighted in entertaining her grandchildren, who only know her as their wacky “Nana B”. She was an avid reader, and couldn’t get enough crossword puzzles and local seafood.

She is survived by her two sons, Aaron and Jason; her four grandchildren, Ellie, Meg, Matthew and Jillian; her sister Darlene; her uncle Bill and his wife Nadine; her cousin Holly and her husband Stig; as well as many other cousins, nieces and nephews.
