ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Luis Castillo went six innings to win his sixth consecutive decision, Mike Ford drove in a run and the Seattle Mariners beat the Tampa Bay Rays 1-0 on Thursday night in a matchup of playoff contenders.

Castillo (12-7) allowed four hits. four walks and struck out eight. He worked out of two-on, one-out jams in each of the first three innings. He threw 108 pitches, one off his season high.

Isaiah Campbell and Matt Brash both went an inning before Andrés Muñoz worked the ninth to get his 12th save and complete a four-hitter.

Muñoz hit Luke Raley with a pitch leading off the ninth, but the Tampa Bay center fielder was thrown out trying to steal second by catcher Cal Raleigh.

Taylor Walls then drew a walk and stole second as Jonathan Aranda struck out. Pinch-hitter Harold Ramírez struck out to end the game.

DODGERS 10, MARLINS 0: Rookie Ryan Pepiot pitched a perfect game for 6 2/3 innings as Julio Urías’ replacement in the rotation, and Los Angeles won at Miami for just its second win seven games.

Josh Bell grounded a single up the middle with two outs in the seventh for the only hit off Pepiot. Caleb Ferguson allowed Garrett Hampson’s leadoff single in the eighth and Evan Phillips finished the two-hitter with a perfect ninth.

TIGERS 10, YANKEES 3: Carlos Rodón allowed Spencer Torkelson’s first two-run homer two batters in and was tagged for seven runs in 3 2/3 innings as New York dropped back to .500 with a home loss.

Detroit dealt a blow to the slim playoff hopes of the Yankees (70-70) who had tied a season high of five straight victories and had won 8 of 9. Trying to avoid its first losing season since 1992, New York has just 22 games left and is seven games back of Toronto for the AL’s last wild card, also trailing Texas and Boston.

BRAVES 8, CARDINALS 5: Ronald Acuña Jr. hit two of Atlanta’s five home runs, Matt Olson increased his major league-leading total to 47 and the Braves won at home

Acuña raised his total to 34 homers with his third multihomer game this season and the 12th of his big-league career. Olson homered for his fourth straight game, and Michael Harris II and Travis d’Arnaud also went deep for major league-best Atlanta (91-48), which leads second-place Philadelphia by 14 games in the NL East.

DIAMONDBACKS 6, CUBS 2: Tommy Pham hit two first-pitch home runs, Ryne Nelson was efficient on the mound in his return from the minors and Arizona won at Chicago.

NOTES

DODGERS: Pitcher Julio Urías was arrested after someone saw a physical altercation between a man and a woman outside a Major League Soccer stadium and contacted police, according to the arrest report.

The report said police were patrolling outside the stadium after the soccer match in which Lionel Messi played in front of numerous celebrities. They were contacted by someone, whose name was not publicly identified, regarding a physical altercation between a man and a woman.

BRAVES: Former All-Star Michael Soroka is out for the season but did receive a bit of good news: His latest injury apparently won’t require surgery.

Soroka was placed on the 15-day injured list Wednesday in another setback for the right-hander whose once-promising career was sidetracked by a pair of major leg injuries.

ANGELS: Shohei Ohtani took swings in the batting cage and did other baseball activities, nearing a return to the lineup after straining his right oblique muscles early in the week.

“He’s moving around good,” Manager Phil Nevin said.

RANGERS: All-Star slugger Adolis García, the American League leader with 100 RBI, will be placed on the 10-day injured list after an MRI revealed a patella tendon strain in his right knee.

General Manager Chris Young said García won’t need surgery because there is no rupture and the team is cautiously optimistic he might be able to return this season. The GM didn’t provide a timetable, and the Rangers have 23 regular-season games left.

Texas is going to call up top prosect outfielder Evan Carter, and he will join the team for the opener of a weekend series at home against Oakland on Friday night. Young said the team wasn’t ready to announce the move needed to add him to the 40-man roster.

TIGERS: Pitcher Matt Manning was placed on the 15-day injured list and will miss the rest of the season with a broken right foot after he was hit by a 119.5 mph comebacker off the bat of Giancarlo Stanton of the New York Yankees.

The 25-year-old is 5-4 with a 3.58 ERA in 15 starts and missed 21/2 months after being hit on the foot by a comebacker off the bat of Toronto catcher Alejandro Kirk.

“I was just annoyed that it was the same foot, same spot basically,” Manning said after getting hurt in Wednesday’s 4-3 loss.

“There are really no positives out of this. It’s unlucky. It happens. I guess pretty cool to get hit by an MVP. I don’t know.”

Manning was struck by Kirk’s comebacker on April 11 and didn’t return to the team until June 27.
