Community Chorus

The Lake Region Community Chorus is seeking new members for the winter season, especially basses and altos. Auditions are not required.

The first rehearsal will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 11, at the Twitchell Chapel at Bridgton Academy. Registration costs $25 and opens at 5:45 p.m. Monday and Sept. 18. The winter concerts are scheduled for 7 p.m. Dec. 8 and 3 p.m. Dec. 10.

Prospective members can have a two-week trial period. The membership fee may be waived at the discretion of the board of directors.

The chorus is a nonprofit organization of about 55 members from 12 towns in the Lake Region.

Bridgton Hospital adds
3-D mammography unit

Bridgton Hospital has added a new mammography unit using 3-D imaging to screen for breast cancer, thanks to donations from the Bridgton Hospital Guild and the Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation.

Bridgton Hospital is the only facility in the Lakes Region to offer 3-D breast imaging. Benefits over 2-D imaging include earlier diagnosis, more accuracy, better detection in dense tissue and fewer callbacks for false alarms, according to a Central Maine Healthcare press release.

Saturday public
library book sale

The Bridgton Public Library will hold “September in the Shed,” a gently-used book sale, from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 9. Get deals on hundreds of books including fiction, children’s books, art books, cookbooks, fantasy, history and more.

Lifelong Learning fall
registration, new site

Lake Region Lifelong Learning, formerly Senior College at Bridgton, is accepting registration for its fall session running from Sept. 19 to Oct. 13. The group will meet on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at its new location at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 42 Sweden Road/Route 93.

Classes are open to anyone in the Lakes Region age 50 or older. A wide range of offerings includes “The Untold Story of Water,” “Conversation with a Funeral Director,” “Ralph Waldo Emerson” and “Gardening in Non-optimal Conditions.”

Harvest Moon Festival
returns next Saturday

Last year’s inaugural event was so successful, the Bridgton Harvest Moon Fest will return Sept. 16 from 2 to 10 p.m. on Depot Street. The festival is family friendly and features many kids’ activities, as well as food, a beer garden, live music and an artists’ alley showing the work of talented locals.
