Louis D. Robichaud

SANFORD – Louis D. “Rubby” Robichaud, 94, of Sanford, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Dec. 5, 2023, at the Southern Maine Health Care Hospital in Biddeford.

He was born in Sanford on Feb. 10, 1929, the youngest and eleventh child of Hypolyte and Cleophe (Lachance) Robichaud.

He attended Sanford schools and then enlisted in the U.S. Marines where he served proudly in Okinawa and Pearl Harbor. After an honorable discharge, he was employed at Pratt Whitney, General Electric and the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard from where he retired in 1991.

After his military service, he returned to Sanford and met Evelyn Boudreau and they were married on Oct. 6, 1951. They remained in the Sanford area raising their four children. A devoted Catholic, he was a member at Holy Family and later Notre Dame Church and several of the social clubs in his town.

As a young boy, he spent many summers at Goose Pond. He enjoyed hunting and fishing throughout his life. An avid sports fan and athlete in his own right, he played and coached many baseball, softball, football and bowling teams. Later in life, he spent much of his spare time at golf courses throughout the state, especially Sanford Country Club.

Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Evelyn (Boudreau) Robichaud; sons Rick (Linda) and Raymond, daughters Donna (Alan) Worthing and Linda (James) O’Connor; grandchildren Jason, Victoria, Kevin, Brendan, Casey, James; great-grandchildren Ruby, Peter and Brooks.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 10 siblings; and their beloved grandson, Zachary Worthing.

A memorial mass will be held at later date at St. Thérèse of Lisieux Parish at Holy Family Church in Sanford. Burial will be at St. Ignatius Cemetery in Sanford.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at SMHC in Biddeford and Summer Commons for the excellent care they provided for Louis.
