Michael Robert Dilworth

FALMOUTH – The world mourns the unexpected passing of Michael Robert Dilworth, otherwise known as “Big Papa,” “Dilly” and “Coach.” Mike passed away unexpectedly on January 3, 2024, at the age of 55. His sudden departure has left an irreplaceable void in the hearts of his cherished family and vast circle of friends.

Born January 24, 1968, in Portland, Maine, Mike brought boundless joy and infectious energy into the lives of his parents, Susan J. Noyes Dilworth and Edward L. Dilworth, Jr. and his two brothers, Edward L. “Ted” Dilworth, III and Thomas J. Dilworth. He was the proud and always devoted father to sons Sean Michael, Lucas Edward, and Paul Thomas, leaving behind an incredible legacy.

A beacon of light in his community, Mike graduated from Cape Elizabeth High School in 1986, Bridgton Academy in 1987 and Saint Michaels College in 1991. He embarked on a successful career in the insurance industry, before founding his own venture, Healthcare Benefit Services, in 1995.

Mike’s presence was as warm and comforting as his legendary hugs. His infectious smile, endless affection and unwavering loyalty illuminated every room he entered. He epitomized generosity, always extending a helping hand to anyone in need. Mike embodied the spirit of selflessness.

Mike’s deepest devotion was reserved for his beloved sons. Whether through daily calls and texts during their time away at college or by being a constant presence at their sporting events, practices and gatherings. Mike’s life revolved around nurturing, supporting, and coaching his boys, their friends, and countless kids in the community. Mike coached baseball, basketball, football and more. He had a nickname for everyone and poured countless hours into shaping young lives.

When not with his children, Mike found solace tending to his properties or joyriding in his cherished 1985 Cadillac and his many lawn tractors. He relished moments on the golf course with his friends and embracing the tranquility of lakes and the ocean.

Mike is survived by his adoring sons, Sean, Lucas, and Paul and their mother, Ann of Falmouth. His devoted parents, Ed and Susan Dilworth of Cumberland, Maine and Naples, Florida, his loving brothers Ted and wife Jennifer from Norway, Tom and wife Cristen from Falmouth, as well as his nieces and nephews, Cloe “Beef”, Charlton “Buckets” and Kate “Pickle” Dilworth, Andrew, Alexis, Julianna, Mathew and Michael Yamin, Ben and Lillian Khouri, Vivian Rodriguez, a very special friend, Coreen Lauren, and a multitude of people who were touched by his kindness every day.

A visitation is scheduled from 4 p.m.-7 p.m., Tuesday, January 9th at Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland. A funeral mass will follow at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 10th at Holy Martyrs Church, 266 Foreside Road, Falmouth.
