Marilyn S. Lord

PARSONSFIELD – Marilyn S. Lord died unexpectedly on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024, just two months shy of her 99th birthday. Her motto was ‘think young’ as she told the doctors hours before passing.

She was the daughter of Lawrence and Isabelle Stacey and was born at Elm Row Dairy, the family farm, on April 7, 1925. She was the middle child of seven and grew up on a very busy three-generational farm where there was always something to get done, which helped define her strong drive and upstanding work ethic.

She married, had three children, and worked at Bernard Watson’s General Store briefly before purchasing and running with care and love for 25 years an apple orchard business in Limerick. As the apple orchard business began its migration to the West Coast she sold the business, and at age 49, desiring another career, studied and received her nursing degree. She worked at Mercy Hospital in Portland for the next 21 years before retiring to take care of ‘older’ people in their homes. In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time in her flower beds. She was extremely active, living a wonderful life right until the end. She was recently the proud recipient of the Boston Post Cane from the Town of Parsonsfield.

She is survived by her three children, Geoffrey Lord (Ellen) of Alexandria, Va., J. Merrill Lord (Shelley) of Rye, N.H., and Christia Lord of Parsonsfield; her two grandchildren Josieda (Sadie) Pettit (Kyle) of Santa Rosa, Calif. and Calvin Lord of Brooklyn, N.Y.; her sister Joanne Wansor of Gorham, her sister-in-law Mary Stacey of Parsonsfield, and her brother-in-law Philip Lord (Mary) of Warner, N.H. She also delighted in following the lives of her scores of nieces, nephews, and their families.

At her request, she will be cremated and there will be no services. Her family would like to extend a sincere thank you to both the staff at the Inn at Atlantic Heights and the Maine Medical Center for their care and support.
