Medical equipment
closet closed

The Senior Used Medical Equipment Closet located in the Ross Center is no longer (one of 2 projects I began after our Age Friendly Biddeford group disbanded 4 years ago, the other being delivering Sand Buckets to Seniors). I learned of this when I voted in the primaries on June 11, informed by the new AFB information table attendees that the closet was being “removed.”

Carl Wash, former director of the Biddeford Recreation Department, gratefully made a space available for providing used medical equipment that has has been done successfully in adjacent communities. Spending weeks collecting, double-sanitizing, hauling and organizing everything and, subsequently, moving to another space following building storm damage, fliers were passed out throughout the community on bulletin boards, including three at the Ross Center.

Not being successful in getting a response from the Ross Center, I went there and discovered that the entire space had been completely emptied of all the medical equipment, records and tags and my record book. Later, I learned that this had been done a week earlier than when I heard the news. Finally, meeting the new director, no explanation was given.

I understand that the center has the authority to use its facilities as it sees fit, but I do not understand why no-one saw fit to notify me when the decision had been made in order to allow time and efforts needed to remove and relocate everything.

If Biddeford seniors or their relatives or friends who take care of them have future medical supply needs, sadly, I have no answers for you and your concerns. I later learned that everything was collected and donated to an African Relief program.

Mail delivery
needs improvement

While I understand that the post office is short staffed and people are entitled to their vacations, we are now on day three of no mail delivery other than packages in our area. I, along with many others, have time sensitive mail which needs to be dealt with in a timely manner. I receive an email each day from USPS that tells me what is being delivered that day. At this point I have 11 pieces of mail that they are holding on to. I don’t know how they can be allowed to determine what should and should not be delivered. I am also concerned with whether outgoing mail is being picked up. There are times when we finally receive the mail, that we don’t receive it all. I have reported this online and no one responds. I have tried to call the Saco Post Office Annex to no avail. They never answer the phone. This is becoming increasingly frustrating for me and others. The Saco Annex leaves us with the impression they don’t care with their lack of response. A few years ago my husband got through to the post office and the manager said that the managers would be delivering all the mail on that Sunday to get it caught up. That time it was a week’s worth of mail that had not been delivered. Something needs to be done to change the way the mail is being delivered so that this does not continue.
