Millard Wesley Pray

BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. – Millard Wesley Pray, 80, passed away in Canandaigua, N.Y., while surrounded by family, on June 26, 2024, from complications from COVID. Born in Belgrade, he was the son of Charles T. and Dolores (Averill) Pray. Millard graduated from Belgrade High School in 1962 and spent most of his life in Freeport.

Shortly after high school, Millard began working for the Maine State Turnpike Authority. Over the years, Millard continued to work in the private sector as a general contractor, working for Bridge, Abington and other construction companies, until 1985 when he and long-time friend Eldon Morrison founded CPM Constructors.

Millard was incredibly respected in the industry and involved with the Maine Better Transportation Association, serving in many roles including President. Millard was a lifelong Republican, volunteering with the Cumberland County GOP and working with numerous state politicians on their elections. In retirement, Millard became a Rotarian in Bonita Springs, Fla., which allowed him to follow his lifelong dream of giving back and being a mentor to younger generations. Above all, he loved his children and grandchildren and cherished being the patriarch of his family.

Millard was predeceased by his wife of 30 years, Mary Lou (Tompkins) Pray; and a grandchild.

He is survived by the three children, Kimberly Pray, Stephanie (Daniel) Hughes and Toby (Leah) Pray; three stepchildren, Michael McMann, Laura (John) Hurley and John (Christine) McMann; 12 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and sister, Coral Herbert; his beloved partner, Janet (Barker) Wild.
