Thomas “Tom” Raymond Messer
BUXTON – Thomas “Tom” Raymond Messer, 66, passed away Aug. 11, 2024 in his home surrounded by family after a bravely fought battle with cancer.
He was born in Portland on Oct. 22, 1957, the son of the late Elford and Louise (Lord) Messer.
Tom graduated in 1976 from South Portland High School where he met Lori, his beautiful wife of 47 years. After graduation, He enlisted in the Navy and was stationed at Whidbey Island Naval Base in Oak Harbor, Wash. Tom proudly served for four years aboard the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower and the USS Constellation, working as an Aviation Electrician’s Mate, Petty Officer 2nd Class.
The past 34 years of Tom’s professional career were spent as a purchasing manager at EAM, in Biddeford.
Tom enjoyed working in his yard and garden but his true passion was fishing. He was a member of the Southern Maine Anglers Club and fished alongside his friend, Obie Philbrook, for nearly 20 years.
Tom took great pride in the strong beautiful family he and Lori created.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Lori (Jackson) Messer; children, Christopher and his partner Kendra Adams of Standish and Michelle Lampron and her husband Zach of Auburn; four grandchildren, Jada and her fiance Trevor, Adelynn, Noah and Joshua; sisters Barbara Guimond and husband Butch, and Ann Poitras; and many nieces and nephews.
Public visitation will be held on Thursday, Aug. 22 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. concluding with U.S. Navy Honors at Chad E. Poitras Cremation and Funeral Service Chapel, 498 Long Plains Rd., Buxton A private family graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Saco.
