Marie McLeod Harrison
SPRING HILL, Fla. – Marie McLeod Harrison, 84, of Spring Hill, Florida, passed away on Sept. 15, 2024, in her home surrounded by loved ones.
Marie was born on August 13, 1940, in Portland, to parents Edgar and Marjorie McLeod. After graduating from Portland High School, she went on to have a successful career as a administrative assistant. Marie spent time living and working in Boston and North Carolina before she made her way back to Maine. She ended her career working from home as a medical transcriptionist.
In 1977, Marie met David Harrison at the Westbrook Eagles Club where they bonded over their matching haircuts and soon fell in love. Marie and David welcomed their daughter, Jessica, in 1978.
In her younger years, Marie used her creativity and entrepreneurial spirit in looming rugs and crafting seaglass jewelry and wares to sell at local fairs. She enjoyed skiing, golf, racquetball and riding on David’s Harley. After retiring to Florida, she enjoyed knitting, reading mystery novels and playing Words With Friends.
Marie was a cherished wife, mother and friend. She was loved for generous heart, contagious laugh, and wonderful sense of humor that kept her cracking jokes right to the end of, in her own words, a blessed life.
Marie will be remembered by the many people whose lives she touched. She is survived by her loving husband, David and daughter Jessica, her brother, Richard McLeod and wife Kathy, her niece, Kristen Flink and husband Eric and daughter Erica.
We would like to thank our dear friends and family who were there during Marie’s illness and passing. Her cousin, Donna Fruzia, “adopted” family members Alexis Flink, Ronin and Sierra Westin, Marika Thompson and Charlotte McLatchy. And longtime close friends, Linda Orcutt and Audrey LeClerc. Jim and Maggie Farrante, and Jim and Donna Gould, who are a part of a large group of friends and neighbors in their Timber Pines community in Spring Hill, Fla.
A celebration of Marie’s life will be held where Marie and David celebrated their wedding 46 years ago, at the Stewart Morrill American Legion – 413 Broadway, South Portland, on Friday, October 25, from 5-8 p.m.
In honor of Marie’s love of her passed and beloved dogs, Mac and Hammy, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, please send gifts to the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland, PO Box 336, Westbrook, ME 04098 or go to http://www.arlgp.org/memorial.
