Maxine Willette Hight
PORTLAND – Maxine Willette Hight, 88, of Portland, passed away on August 22, 2024, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice after a long and fulfilling life. She was born in Presque Isle on Sept. 15, 1935, the first child of Llewellyn and Kathleen Dorsey Willette. They moved to Portland when Maxine was 8 years old.
Maxine graduated from Portland High School in 1954 and married her high school sweetheart Arthur upon his return from serving in the US Navy. Arthur passed away Sept. 15, 2022. They were married for 62 years and had three children, Scott, Stephen, and Shawn. While the kids were young, she was a homemaker, and later worked for Portside Daycare until her retirement.
Maxine celebrated life every day. She was generous, kind, funny, and will be missed by everyone who knew her. Maxine was a proud and smitten grandmother of seven, Spencer and Nathan; Emelia, William, and Jonathan; Chloe and Sophie.
Maxine is survived by her children and grandchildren; sister Alice; brother Rusty; sisters-in-law Gail, Connie, and Marilyn; brother-in-law Michael; numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces; and many, many friends, including her neighbors on Presnell Street where she lived for nearly 60 years.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service to honor the life of Maxine on Friday, Oct. 4, 2024, at 10 a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery, Stevens Avenue, Portland. http://www.hospicesouthernamine.org. Arrangements are under the care of Jones, Rich & Barnes Funeral Home, 199 Woodford Street.
