John J. Conners Jr.
SCARBOROUGH – John J. Conners, Jr., 90, of Scarborough, passed away Tuesday morning, Oct. 15, 2024 at his daughter’s home in Scarborough with his family by his side.
He was born in Madison, Wis. July 6, 1934, the son of John and Marie Conners. He graduated with a degree in Business from the University of Wisconsin in Madison. While attending college, he married the girl next door, Mary Ann, with whom he shared five children. John joined the United States Army Reserve after college achieving the rank of Captain before receiving an honorable discharge.
John’s business career spanned multiple areas of real estate, including mortgage banking, mortgage insurance and property appraisal. The last stop in his career was the co-ownership of a real estate appraisal firm in Portland. John lived his life focused on, and in service to, his wife and family. While his children were young, they traveled on countless camping adventures throughout the United States. After permanently settling at Higgins Beach in Scarborough in 1988, he welcomed members of his large family to vacation at the beach every summer. He was always ready with a joke or a tease, in a never ending pursuit of a smile or laugh from those he loved.
John was a communicant of St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church in Scarborough and was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Society of Real Estate Appraisers.
He was predeceased by son, Christopher and his wife, Mary Ann, both in 2022.
He is survived by daughters Patricia and husband Doug Kersten, Elisabeth and husband Gino Malaspina, sons David and wife Joan, John, III and wife Kris, daughter-in-law, Melissa; and sister, Mary Janeth Conners; also survived by his grandchildren, Caitlin, Jordan, John IV, Michael, Lauren, Justin, Kyra, Briesa, and Samuel; great-grandchildren, Kaydence, Violet, and Piper.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate the Life of John on Monday, Oct. 21, at 11 a.m. at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church, 150 Black Point Rd., Scarborough. Interment will follow at New Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
