Documentary on
American chestnut
Award-winning “Clear Day Thunder: Rescuing the American Chestnut,” produced by The American Chestnut Foundation, will be shown at the Magic Lantern Theater and 4-H Innovation Center on Sunday, Nov. 3, at 6 p.m.
The documentary traces the history of the American chestnut tree, its obliteration by disease, and its road to restoration. Learn why the chestnut was essential to the fabric of communities from Georgia to Maine and why so many have dedicated so much to return this iconic tree to its native range. Stories from ordinary people, scientists and notable chestnut lovers, including Dolly Parton, former President Jimmy Carter, Barbara Kingsolver and E.O. Wilson, show how the love of a tree can drive people to secure its future.
The film runs for 52 minutes and will be followed by a Q&A session with representatives from the Maine Chapter of TACF, Loon Echo Land Trust, and The Magic Lantern. The event is free. Reserve seats at magiclanternmovies.com. The Magic Lantern Theater is located at 9 Depot St. in Bridgton.
