Robert Giggey

DURHAM, N.C. – Robert Giggey, 76, died on Sunday, Nov. 7, 2024, at Huntington Commons in Kennebunk. Born in Frankfurt, Germany in 1947, Bob grew up on military bases across the country. He considered Maine his home state, although he lived for more than 30 years in North Carolina.

His experience as a medic in Vietnam shaped his professional career. He completed his training at Howard University and became one of the first physician assistants in the state of Maine. He spent his early career at Franklin Memorial Hospital and moonlighting across rural Maine. He retired as a faculty member from Duke University Hospital.

He loved golfing, flying, and spending time at the family cottage on Great Diamond Island in Portland. Most of all, he loved to share experiences with his family and friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Mary (Meissner) Giggey; and sister, Carolyn.

He is survived by his wife, Evangeline; his girls Kate (Scott), Abby (Jacob), and Annie (Michael); and grandchildren Logan, Caraline, Amelia, Eva, Atticus, and Owen. He will be missed by his many close friends who were like family to him.

Visiting hours will be held Sunday, Nov. 10 from 12 to 2 p.m. with a service from 2 to 2:30 p.m. at Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home, 172 State St., Portland.
