Jane Elizabeth Landgren

FALMOUTH – It is with heavy hearts that we announce Jane Elizabeth Landgren, formerly of Holden, Mass. and Falmouth, passed away peacefully on Feb. 9, 2025 at the age of 90. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

Born to Carrell Kingsbury Pierce and his wife Elizabeth Hall Pierce, Jane was raised in the Stroudwater area of Portland.

Her love for the outdoors continued throughout her life with summers at her family’s lake house on Sebago Lake swimming, canoeing, and sailing, along with winters skiing throughout the Northeast. She also spent several summers working as a camp counselor. Jane was an avid traveler in the U.S. and abroad. A true Maine woman, Jane had a special bond with animals and spent most of her life surrounded by dogs. Her gentleness and care for all creatures, big and small, was just one example of her generous spirit.

A proud graduate of Saint Mary’s-in-the-Mountains School in Littleton, N.H., Jane got her associate’s degree from Pine Manor College in Wellesley, Mass. She also took advanced early childhood education classes at Tufts University in Medford, Mass. and Clark University in Worcester, Mass. Her passion for working with children led her to a 35-year career in early childhood education including special needs and Montessori, where she touched the lives of countless young minds.

On Feb. 17, 1962, Jane married the love of her life, Roy W. Landgren, and together they shared 42 wonderful years of marriage.

She is survived by her three children, Deborah E. Landgren, Mark A. Landgren (Patricia “Trish” Landgren) and Anne L. Blessington (John Blessington); along with her sister, Elinor Hunt of Tampa, Fla.; many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She devoted herself to being a grandmother to her six beloved grandchildren, Anna, Anders, and Elizabeth Landgren and Chase, Emelia, and John “Jack” Blessington.

Jane is predeceased by her husband, Roy; and her brother John “Jack” Pierce.

Jane’s loving nature, strong work ethic, resilience, and kindness made her loved by anyone who knew her. Despite the challenges of dementia later in life, she never stopped offering a kind word to everyone she met.

A private burial will be held for immediate family in late March. A celebration of Jane’s life will take place this summer at the family’s camp on Sebago Lake, where loved ones will gather to honor her memory.
