Arthur Yanuchi
FALMOUTH – Arthur Augustine Yanuchi, of Falmouth, passed away on April 15, 2025 after a brief illness. He was 94 years old. Arthur was born on Oct. 29, 1930 on Long Island, N.Y., to Alfonso and Antoinette Yanuchi.
Arthur graduated from Hofstra University with a degree in economics. He attended Hofstra on a baseball scholarship. He was drafted into the Army at the beginning of the Korean War. He was assigned to the 10th Mountain Division and was a Winter Warfare Instructor. He saw combat and was decorated during his service to his country. Arthur had an adventurous spirit and climbed Mount Fuji in Japan, following his honorable discharge from the Army.
He worked for the real estate division of Texaco for many years before branching out as a real estate developer and entrepreneur.
Arthur, along with his seven siblings, grew up on the Delano Estate on Long Island, where his father was the property superintendent.
Arthur had a deep love of the ocean and the coast of Maine. He spent as much time as possible at his cottage on Sturdivant Island, where he enjoyed gardening, clamming and puttering around. He had a passion for gardening and for raising Beagles.
He was predeceased by his ex-wife, Elizabeth Gamage of Portland; his parents; and his siblings, Joseph, Concetta, Andrew, Louise, Vincent, Dorothy, and Anthony; and nephew, Gregory.
He is survived by his son, Jeffrey Yanuchi and his wife, Lori, and two grandsons, Stony and Brooks Yanuchi, all of Healy, Alaska. He is also survived by nieces and nephews Toni, Ellen, Vincent, Virginia, Valerie, Rodney, Arthur, Sally, Judy, Mindy and Michael.
Arthur was well loved in his community and will be very missed by his friends and neighbors, as well as his family. Arthur will be interred at the Maine Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, in Augusta this fall after a private memorial for friends and family.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Lindquist Funeral Home in Yarmouth.
