Richard Lindemann
BRUNSWICK – Richard Lindemann died on Nov. 9, 2025, at the age of 76, from an aggressive form of multiple myeloma.
Richard had a passion for learning and sharing knowledge with others. He was a loving husband, father, and brother; a dedicated librarian; a talented editor; and a witty conversationalist.
He took great pleasure in the outdoors, especially in kayaking and hiking with his daughter. With a deep appreciation of craftsmanship, he built a cabin in the Virginia foothills and renovated several homes, including the house in Brunswick that became home to him and his wife, Harriet. He loved to travel, an interest sparked by a high school exchange program in Finland.
A long career in library science led Richard to Bowdoin College, where he retired as Director Emeritus of Special Collections and Archives. Before becoming a librarian, he earned a PhD in medieval history at the University of Virginia and was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa honor society at the University of Georgia.
Richard is survived by his wife, Harriet; his daughter, Kate; and his sisters Erika and Hilde; as well as two nieces and a nephew.
He was predeceased by his parents, Charlotte and J. W. Richard Lindemann; and his sister, Carla.
