Michael James Penna
OLD ORCHARD BEACH – Michael James Penna, 63, of Old Orchard Beach passed away on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2025, at Maine Health Maine Medical Center in Portland.
He was born in Miami Beach, Florida, on July 5, 1962, a son of Larry and Susan (MacDonald) Penna. At a young age his family relocated to Cape Ellis. Michael graduated from Thornton Academy class of 1981.
Michael had a very strong work ethic and talent for building so after high school he began his working career as a self employed contractor.
Michael had a passion for the outdoors. He took many camping trips up to the North Maine Woods. Michael loved being on the ocean, fishing with longtime friend Roger Collard. Michael was a longtime member of the Elks Lodge where he frequently volunteered as a cook and received an “Elk of the Year” award for his services.
Most of all, Michael enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He especially loved the time he spent with his daughter Sarah, who he shared a special friendship with.
He was predeceased by his father Larry Penna, his sister Melissa Penna, his stepfather L. Philip Bernier, by his two half-brothers, Thomas Penna and Ralph Penna, and by his stepsister Theresa Bernier Burns.
Michael is survived by his daughter Sarah Penna; by his mother Susan (MacDonald) Penna Bernier; by his siblings, Beth Penna Poitras, Steven Penna and Billy Penna. He is also survived by many friends and a loving extended family.
A celebration of life will be held in the spring at the Sunset Bar and Grill in Old Orchard Beach, date to be determined.
