Angelina Keo scored 19 points to lift Deering to a 52-47 win over Portland in a girls basketball season opener Friday.
Blake Gayle added 15 points for Deering, which outscored Portland 31-19 in the second half.
Fasika West had 13 points and Lawino Bendasta tossed in 12 for Portland.
LEAVITT 46, LINCOLN ACADEMY 37: Gabby Smith’s 18 points helped the Hornets defeat the Eagles in Turner.
Elizabeth Kowalski chipped in with 14 points.
Lillian Labrie led Lincoln with 14 points.
POLAND 32, YARMOUTH 17: The Knights only allowed three points in the second half as they pulled away for a season-opening victory in Poland.
Poland led 17-14 at halftime, then held Yarmouth scoreless in the third quarter.
Phoebe Paradis and Payton Rose paced the Knights with eight points apiece. Maddison Bosse added seven.
Rory Tompkins led the Clippers with seven points.
TRAIP ACADEMY 33, SACOPEE VALLEY 16: Avery Bouffard scored 11 points to pace the Rangers past the Hawks in Hiram.
Traip also got nine points from Madelyn Rohan and eight from Maddie Rondeau.
Mirielle Bridges led Sacopee with six points.
BONNY EAGLE 46, FALMOUTH 25: Kylie Cole scored 22 points as the Scots rolled past the Tigers in Standish.
Charlotte Ferguson helped out with nine points.
Falmouth got nine points from Siobhan Nielsen.
GORHAM 49, SCARBOROUGH 46: The Rams raced out to an 18-3 lead in the first quarter, then held off the Red Storm in Scarborough.
Winni Moreland scored 14 points and Zoe Dellinger had 10 for Gorham, which made eight 3-pointers.
Scarborough tied the game twice in the second half but never took the lead. The Red Storm were paced by Eva Alvarez with 17 points and Helena Bukarac with 16.
WINDHAM 59, THORNTON ACADEMY 38: The Eagles pulled away in the third quarter and rolled to a season-opening win over the Trojans in Windham.
Marley Jarvais scored 20 points and Mackenzie Delewski added 16 for Windham, which outscored Thornton 19-9 in the third quarter.
Maise McIntosh had 12 points for the Trojans.
YORK 59, LAKE REGION 44: Nya Avery scored 18 points, Sophie Coite added 15, and the Wildcats pulled away with a 21-6 second-quarter run against the Lakers in York.
Piper Catanese chipped in with 13 points for York, which led 34-16 at halftime.
Helena Sheldrick scpred 14 points and Kathryn Peterson finished with 11 for the Lakers.
EDWARD LITTLE 48, CAMDEN HILLS 32: Charlotte Ranger scored 14 points as the Red Eddies opened the season with a road win over the Windjammers in Rockport.
After leading by five points at the halftime break, Edward Little outscored Camden Hills 23-12 in the second half. Complementing Ranger was a balanced scoring attack that included seven points apiece from Xavi Hall and Elizabeth Galway, and six by Hope Fontaine.
Leah Jones led the Windjammers with nine points. Thea Laukka finished with eight.
MT. ARARAT 63, LEWISTON 25: The Eagles seized control early and soared to a season-opening victory over the Blue Devils in Lewiston.
Mt. Ararat led 17-2 after one quarter and 32-5 at halftime. Kayleigh Wagg led the Eagles with 14 points, while Julianna Allen and Jenna Jenson added 13 apiece.
Ella Beaudoin and Syhniya Jackson each scored seven points for Lewiston.
BOYS BASKETBALL
PORTLAND 56, DEERING 46: Lucas LeGage made five 3-pointers and finished with 27 points to lead the Bulldogs to a season-opening win over the visiting Rams.
Wyatt Day, Ephraim Luseko and Maddox Meas each added six points.
Rayan Mohamed scored 15 points and Excellent Uwizeye tallied 10 for Deering.
SACOPEE VALLEY 40, TRAIP ACADEMY 27: Payton Young sank four 3-pointers and finished with 14 points as the Hawks defeated the Rangers in Kittery.
Silas Nielsen added 10 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks for Sacopee, which outscored Traip 32-8 over the middle two quarters to build a 38-18 lead.
Jack Kern paced Traip with 16 points.
WELLS 64, NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 31: Kevin Bolduc scored 13 of his 20 points in the first half to help the Warriors beat the Panthers in Wells.
Bolduc added nine rebounds and five steals. Aiden Collins scored 12 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter, and Darion Lemont had four assists.
Mansuk Loboka scored 12 points for NYA.
MEDOMAK VALLEY 68, ERSKINE ACADEMY 47: Mason Nguyen poured in 24 points as the Panthers opened their season with a victory in South China.
Nguyen and Owen Dostie (12 points) each made three 3-pointers. They were joined in double figures by Kollin Donlin, who finished with 10 points.
Cam Coutts and Gavin Fanjoy each scored 14 points for Erskine.
CAPE ELIZABETH 48, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 40: Owen Beaureguard scored 18 points, and the Capers fought off the Raiders in Cape Elizabeth.
Cody Boyd tallied 15 points for Fryeburg, which temporarily took the lead in the third quarter after trailing 22-17 at halftime. Cape moved back ahead by the end of the third, 33-27, and held on from there.
SCARBOROUGH 51, GORHAM 36: Adam Fitzgerald scored 19 points, Carter Blanche added 14 points and 12 rebounds, and the Red Storm opened their season with a win over the visiting Rams.
Layton Garriepy also reached double figures, finishing with 11 points.
Preston Brown led Gorham with 16 points.
YORK 70, LAKE REGION 39: Cohen Camire scored 14 points, and the Wildcats cruised past the Lakers in Naples.
Reece MacDonald added 13 points and Robbie Hanscom had 12.
Matthew Plummer scored 12 points for Lake Region.
BONNY EAGLE 53, FALMOUTH 37: Max Bouchard and Benedito Noe both scored 13 points as the Scots beat the Navigators in Falmouth.
Dominic Hau and Tres Walker led Falmouth with 10 points each.
MARSHWOOD 56, MASSABESIC 31: Max Bouchard and Benedito Noe both scored 13 points as the Scots beat the Navigators in Falmouth.

SANFORD 88, BIDDEFORD 58: The Spartans built a 53-26 halftime lead and cruised to a win over the Tigers in Sanford.
Luke Gendron, Carter Giroux, Dylan Gendron and Bryce Adams combined for all 28 Sanford points in the opening quarter. Luke Gendron finished with 20 points, Giroux had 16, and Dylan Gendron and Adams each scored 14.
Julius Searles tossed in 19 points and Jackson Dore added 17 for Biddeford.
YARMOUTH 60, POLAND 42: Evan Orenellas and Adam Maxwell combined for 21 points in the third quarter as the Clippers went on a 29-13 run to pull away from the Knights in Yarmouth.
Orenellas finished with 25 points, including 11 in the third quarter. Maxwell added 12 points and Ian Lawrence had 10.
Poland’s Nick Jamo and Jake Jamo both scored 15 points.
LEAVITT 66, LINCOLN ACADEMY 60: Colin Schlobohm’s 25 points paced the Hornets to an overtime victory over the Eagles in Turner.
Schlobohm also had nine rebounds and six assists. Jacob Gibbs contributed 13 points, six assists, six rebounds, three steals and three blocks, and Brody Poland also scored 13 points.
Aidyn Herring led Lincoln with 24 points. Mike Mitchell and Chase Ober scored 11 each, and James Hawley chipped in with 10.
KENNEBUNK 69, NOBLE 33: Dylan Myhal scored 14 points and Isaac Tarring added 13 as the Rams rolled to a win over the Knights in Kennebunk.
Sawyer Pow chipped in with 10 points.
Jude Byrne had 13 points and Evan Ballard scored 11 for Noble.
WINDHAM 73, THORNTON ACADEMY 71: Tyrie James scored 33 points, Colin Janvrin added 19, and the Eagles edged the Trojans in Saco.
James and Janvrin each had three 3-pointers. AJ Moody finished with 10 points for Windham.
De’Shawn Alston led Thornton with 29 points, including six 3-pointers. Simon Gellis followed with 16 points.
LEWISTON 64, MT. ARARAT 56: Grayson Bernard led all scorers with 23 points for the Blue Devils in a win over the Eagles at Topsham.
Joao Samba chipped in with 18 points.
Logan Zoulamis paced Mt. Ararat with 17 points.
SOUTH PORTLAND 62, CHEVERUS 60: Gabe Jackson scored 14 of his 29 points in the fourth quarter and Darius Johnson made a short jumper just before the final buzzer as the Red Riots rallied past the Stags in Portland.
Leonel Despacho added 16 points for the visitors, who trailed 49-39 after three quarters.
Cheverus had four players in double figures: Khaelon Watkins (17), Jameson Fitzpatrick (12), AJ Lauture (11) and Colton Jewett (10).
BOYS HOCKEY
BRUNSWICK/FREEPORT 5, GREELY 2: Ethan Patterson scored twice and added two assists in the Dragons’ win over the Rangers at Sid Watson Arena in Brunswick.
Evan Dorsey also scored twice, and Jamison Palmer notched the other Brunswick goal.
Jack Noone scored and had an assist for Greely and Noah Baril also scored.
Michael Shoemaker stopped 43 shots in the win. Greely’s Beckett Olsen made 23 saves.
FRYEBURG 2, WINDHAM 1: Kiefer Gilligan scored in overtime to give Fryeburg/Lake Region/Oxford Hills a season-opening win over Windham/Westbrook/Bonny Eagle/Sacopee Valley at USM Ice Arena in Gorham.
Gunner Truman assisted on both goals for the IceCats, including the tying goal by Jokubas Mostavicius in third period.
Collin Lombard put the Trail Blazers ahead in the second period.
IceCats goalie Charlie Herrick stopped 23 shots, while Sawyer Perkins made 30 saves for the Windham co-op.
GORHAM/MASSABESIC 5, KENNEBUNK/WELLS 2: Connor Rounds scored twice for Gorham/Massabesic in a win over Kennebunk/Wells at USM Ice Arena in Gorham.
Andrew Collins contributed a goal and an assist. Levi Wagner and Weston Haskell were the other goal scorers for Gorham.
Dylan Page scored and assisted on Jacob Corthell’s goal for Kennebunk/Wells.
Peyton Wilkins turned aside 20 shots in the win. Richard Pocius of Kennebunk/Wells made 35 saves.
