Emily Groves scored 18 points, Abby Giroux added 12, and Freeport surged in the fourth quarter for a 42-34 win over Yarmouth in a Class B South girls basketball game Thursday at Yarmouth.
Mari Ambila added eight points for Freeport (2-2), which put together a 14-4 run in the fourth.
Rory Tompkins led Yarmouth (1-4) with 18 points.
POLAND 56, WAYNFLETE 25: Sophia Aube scored 15 points and the Knights (4-2) cruised to a win over the Flyers (2-3) in Poland.
Phoebe Paradis added 12 points for Poland, which jumped out to a 22-8 lead after the first quarter.
Paloma Schair-Cardona scored 17 points for Waynflete.
WATERVILLE 32, SACOPEE VALLEY 15: Hailey Snipe scored 15 points to lead the Panthers (1-4) past the Hawks (2-4) in Hiram.
Danikah Harrison added eight points for Waterville, which held Sacopee Valley scoreless in the second and fourth quarters.
Mirielle Bridges scored six points for Sacopee.
GREELY 29, CAPE ELIZABETH 27: The Rangers (4-1) jumped out to a 16-10 lead at the half and held off the Capers (2-3) in Cape Elizabeth.
Hannah Hussey led a balanced attack with seven points for Greely.
Lila Rosu-Myles scored 10 of her 11 points in the second half for Cape Elizabeth.
BRUNSWICK 61, MORSE 31: Grace Roak recorded 21 points, 12 rebounds, four steals and three assists to lead the Dragons (3-2) over the Shipbuilders (1-4) in Brunswick.
Emma Michaud and Sadie Mullen each added 10 points for Brunswick, which outscored Morse 25-8 in the second quarter for a 32-16 lead.
Reese Darling tallied nine points and Molly Cosgrove had eight for Morse.
YORK 61, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 28: Nya Avery scored 20 points as the Wildcats (3-2) beat the Raiders (0-5) in York.
Lucy Taylor added 10 points.
Preslie Knapp tossed in 15 points for Fryeburg.
GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 68, LAKE REGION 25: Abbey Steele scored 24 points and Bryn Gilmore added 15 as the Patriots (6-0) defeated the Lakers (1-3) in Gray.
Ella Kenney contributed 13 points for the Patriots, who led 21-5 after one quarter and 42-12 at halftime.
Jada Smith scored six points for Lake Region.
BUCKFIELD 40, NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 24: Sarah Devoe recorded 24 points for the Bucks (5-1) in a win over the Panthers (0-5) in Buckfield.
Daicey Speirs led NYA with nine points.
WINTHROP 36, TRAIP ACADEMY 25: Kylee Savage scored 11 points to pace the Ramblers (4-1) past the Rangers (1-4) in Winthrop.
Winthrop’s balanced scoring attack included seven points by Grace Folsom and six apiece from Kylee Mansir and Evelyn Mortimer.
Maddie Rondeau tallied 16 points for Traip.
BOYS BASKETBALL
POLAND 84, WAYNFLETE 51: Nick Jamo scored 16 of his 24 points in the third quarter as the Knights (4-2) defeated the Flyers (3-1) in Portland.
The visitors led 41-17 at halftime, then outscored Waynflete 33-15 in the third quarter.
Jamo made six 3-pointers.
Jake Jamo added 14 points, Lucas Verrill finished with 12 and Damon Martin had 11.
JJ Carlo led Waynflete with 21 points. Jed Alsup scored 14.
YORK 66, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 26: Reece MacDonald scored 23 points and the Wildcats (5-0) handled the Raiders (0-5) in Fryeburg.
Henry Mirick added 11 points and Ronin Avery finished with 10.
Kyle Infinger scored 10 points for Fryeburg.
PINE TREE ACADEMY 81, ISLESBORO 47: Ben Christman hit seven 3-pointers on his way to 25 points, leading the Breakers (4-1) past the Eagles (1-3) at Islesboro.
Collin Verrill added 20 points, while Samuel Batista and Rhett Tyson each scored 10.
Finley Conover paced Islesboro with 24 points. Ryder Durkee finished with 10.
SACOPEE VALLEY 79, WATERVILLE 55: Cooper Berkowitz scored 22 points as the Hawks (5-1) cruised past the Purple Panthers (0-5) in Waterville.
Silas Nielsen added 16 points and 15 rebounds for Sacopee, which led 23-8 after one quarter and 37-12 at halftime. Travis Brassard scored 13 points, and Payton Young made four 3-pointers — all in the first half — for 12 points.
Derek Couture paced Waterville with 25 points. Elijah Cullen and Isaac Gilman each scored nine.
YARMOUTH 68, FREEPORT 57: Ian Lawrence and Evan Oranellas each scored 15 points, and the Clippers (3-2) began each half with a big run against the Falcons (0-4) in Freeport.
Owen Oranellas added 11 points and Adam Maxwell finished with 10 for Yarmouth, which led 23-8 after one quarter and then used a 21-7 burst in the third quarter to make it 54-33.
Drew Pound scored 18 points, Gage Daignault followed with 13 and Ben Albertini had 12 for Freeport.
BOYS HOCKEY
GREELY 4, GORHAM/MASSABESIC 3: A power-play goal by Jarrett Bush early in the third period turned out to be the winner as the Rangers (1-3) held off the Rams (2-1) at Family Ice Center in Falmouth.
Greely also got goals from Noah Baril in the first period and Coben Donnelly and Connor Murphy in the second for a 3-0 lead. Rangers goalie Beckett Olsen earned his first varsity victory.
Cam Bourque, Andrew Collins and Levi Wagner scored for Gorham/Massabesic.
THORNTON ACADEMY 9, PLOG 0: Trent Lesieur and Max Siebert each recorded a hat trick for the Golden Trojans (4-1) in a win over Poland/Leavitt/Oak Hill/Gray-New Gloucester (3-1) at Biddeford Ice Arena.
Jake Skillings collected two goals and three assists, while Jake Allaire added a goal and three assists.
Thornton goalie Cole Fernald stopped all seven shots he faced. Logan Rousseau made 34 saves for the Kings.
GIRLS HOCKEY
PORTLAND CO-OP4, YORK CO-OP 3: Sarah Finn scored a power play goal midway through overtime to give Portland/Deering/South Portland/Cape Elizabeth/Waynflete (4-4) a victory over York/Traip/Marshwood/Noble (1-4) at Troubh Ice Arena in Portland.
It was her second goal of the game, to go along with an assist. Eloise Hackett also scored twice for the Beacons.
Marlo Elwell netted two goals for the Wildcats, while Ella Creamer had a goal and two assists. Wildcats goalie Kiera Durgin made 44 saves.
