Nancy Elaine Wing

WINDHAM – Nancy Elaine Wing, 88, passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of Monday, Dec. 8, 2025, in Windham, Maine. She was born on May 21, 1937, in Lewiston, Maine, and was raised on her family’s farm in Gardiner.

Nancy graduated from the University of Connecticut with a degree in social work, beginning a life rooted in service, care, and compassion. Throughout her career she worked for Pratt & Whitney United Aircraft and later became a retail buyer for L.L.Bean.

Nancy was a devoted mother to her children Linda and Scott, and a deeply adored grandmother. She helped raise one of her granddaughters and provided unwavering support, love, and hands-on care to her immediate and extended family throughout her life.

A woman of many talents, Nancy was a gifted knitter who created countless sweaters, socks, and cherished handmade pieces for family, friends, and her church. Through her creations, she raised thousands of dollars for North Deering Congregational Church. She was also an accomplished piano player, an enthusiastic card player, and a lover of jokes and playful tricks that brought joy and laughter to those around her.

Nancy loved the outdoors; hiking Morse Mountain, walking by the river, watching birds, and spending summer days tanning at the beach with her family. She was a lifelong animal lover, a dedicated Red Sox fan, and someone who stayed closely connected to her friends, always with a card, a call, or a visit. She exercised at the YMCA well into her 80s, sang in the church choir, and volunteered consistently at her church and local hospitals. Her life was marked by punctuality, hard work, and a deep commitment to caring for others with her heart, time, and resources.

She is survived by her brother Charlie Wing, her sister Sue Beach; her daughter Linda Carter; her granddaughters Cheyenne Carter, Taylor Schenker, and Lauren Schenker; her partner Stan Scribner; and her two beloved cats. She leaves behind a legacy of generosity, devotion, levity, and love that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
