Joseph “Ken” Dumont

ARUNDEL – Joseph “Ken” Dumont, 92, passed away peacefully on Jan. 7, 2026, at Gosnell Hospice House, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on Aug. 20, 1933, in Augusta, Ken was a lifelong Mainer known for his hardy spirit and quiet strength. He graduated from Cony High School, attended Maine Central Institute, and proudly served in the U.S. Air Force. He later earned a degree from the University of Maine at Orono, where he excelled as a football player.

Ken began his career as a teacher and coach at Edward Little High School before enjoying a long career with the Department of Defense in Washington, D.C., Boston, and the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. In retirement, he ran his own handyman business, loved fishing and golfing, and was active in the Camp Ellis Rod and Gun Club and the Elks Club. He and his wife Janet enjoyed winter trips to Venice Beach, Florida.

A devoted family man, Ken was married to Janet Lord Dumont for 66 years, cherishing her with unwavering love. He was a wise and supportive father to his three daughters and was so proud of his five grandchildren, Corey Schwartz, Stephanie Dambach, Kyle Dambach, Joshua Schwartz and Joseph Hall. Known for his quick wit, tireless work ethic, kindness, and integrity, Ken was simply a great man.

He was a passionate fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots, cheering for his beloved teams with enthusiasm throughout his life.

Ken is survived by his wife Janet; daughters, Laurie Schwartz of South Portland, Kim Dambach and her husband, Tim of Land O’Lakes, Fla., and Dawn Hall of Saco; sister Nancy Bechard (Georgia); five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his son in-law, Tim Schwartz, brother Emile Dumont and sister Gerine Regan.

A graveside service with military honors will be held Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are provided by Dennett, Craig & Pate Funeral Home, Saco.
