David Scribner
SOUTH PORTLAND – David Scribner, 85, of South Portland, passed away on Jan. 6, 2026 at his home in South Portland after a long illness.
David was born in Rumford, to Frederic and Elizabeth (Libby) Scribner on July 26, 1940. He attended school in Dixfield, graduating in 1958. He graduated from the University of Maine at Orono and was a science teacher at Mahoney Junior High in South Portland where he also worked as a coach and as the athletic director. David married Mary Ellen Taylor of Rumford and they were happily married for over 50 years.
David spent his summers on Rangeley Lake in Oquossoc. He dearly loved talking with friends and meeting new people “on the porch” at the Oquossoc Grocery and at Pats Pizza in Scarborough.
David was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen; and his parents Fred and Libby Scribner.
He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Scribner, her husband Stephen Sturtevant, and their daughter Chelsea Sturtevant. He is also survived by his brother, Dale Scribner and his wife Kathleen.
Per David’s wishes there will be no services.
