A new housing development is slated to convert part of a downtown Freeport parking lot into 45 condos.
The Freeport Project Review Board gave its approval last month to Domus LLC, which plans to build a 45-unit condo complex at 45 Depot St.
The one- and two-bedroom units will range from 486–524 square feet. Approximately 34 of the condo units will be geared toward workforce housing, priced around $300,000, while the 11 two-bedroom units on the top floor will cost around $450,000, according to Jack Soley, partner and co-founder of Domus. The developer hopes to break ground in April with a target completion date of summer 2027.

There is a dire need for middle-income housing in the area, and this location is right next to the Amtrak station and in the midst of downtown, making it ideal for people who are starting out in the housing market or looking to downsize, Soley said.
Freeport Development Director Brett Richardson said the Depot Street condos will serve as smaller starter homes for municipal employees, young professionals and workers that keep Freeport going.
Freeport is collaborating with Domus to move a stormwater line that bisects the property, allowing the town to maintain the infrastructure and freeing Domus up to develop the condos.
The 45 Depot St. condos are the first project Domus has done in Freeport but is not the first project overall. Clover Terraces in Westbrook, currently under construction, was the first project Domus pursued, Soley said.
The Depot Street condos also advance the goals of Freeport’s Downtown Vision Plan to draw more people to live downtown and add to its vibrancy.
