Simone Doyon Racine
BRUNSWICK – Born Simone Jeanne Doyon, on Oct. 7, 1936, to Marie Anne (LaCasse) and Napoleon Doyon in Milan, NH, she passed peacefully, at age 89, surrounded by family on Feb. 15, 2026, in Brunswick after bearing the cross of dementia for a dozen years. Simone’s life was a testament of loving service to her family and faith community.
Tireless, Simone was dedicated and tenacious in her care for others. While raising her own young children, she took in and cared for her ailing mother-in-law and later her father-in-law. Simone baked her own bread and the most wonderful pies, sewed everything from prom dresses to quilts, knitted and crocheted countless gifts for loved ones, and was active in her parish, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
A member of the Daughters of Isabella for over 45 years, she served as Regent among other roles. Her ministries included Sew Blessed and RCIA. Simone also worked outside the home, as a bank teller, switchboard operator, and medical records specialist. Her children remember how enthusiastically she encouraged them to learn music, which was formative for most of them, driving them to endless lessons, rehearsals and performances. Even when memories had long faded, humming brought Simone great comfort and singing, a joyful smile.
Simone married the love of her life, Emile Racine, at the age of 16 on Feb. 14, 1953, and was a devoted wife for 66 years before his passing in 2019.
She is survived by three loving children, Jimé (Tiffany) Racine of Dayton, Paulette (Dean) Hoppesch of Schaumburg, Ill., and Sandy (Jeff) Lano of Freeport, and a son-in-law, Dana Bowen of Topsham. She was blessed with nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Simone will be dearly missed by her surviving sister, Terry LaJoie of Lewiston, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews, some who were like siblings and some for whom she was their first babysitter.
Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by five siblings, Jeannette, Blanche, Adrien (Bob), Liane and Julienne, her daughter Marianne (2026) and son Stephen (1967).
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John the Baptist Church will be scheduled for Springtime through Demer’s Funeral Home of Brunswick.
