Madaline Wagner

GRAY – Madaline Wagner, 96, passed away at Marshwoods Nursing Home in Lewiston, Maine on March 11, 2026.

Madaline was born on Jan. 14. 1930 in Windham. She grew up in Limerick with her parents and two sisters, Marguerite and Avis, and lived most of her life there. She graduated from Limerick High School.

After high school she married her first husband, Myles Burbank, and lived on her parents’ farm where they raised their two children, Myles Jr. and Brenda Burbank. Following Myles’ passing, she later married Robert Wagner. Robert brought three daughters into their family, Diane, Barbara, and Gail. Together they moved to Gray where they welcomed two more children, Dana and Karen. Throughout their lives together, Madaline and Robert lovingly cared for their large blended family.

While in Gray, Madaline became a beloved and cherished member of society through the Gray Congregational Church. She found great purpose and community within the church, and continued to care for her community through her work in the Gray-New Gloucester school system for 40 years. During this time she enjoyed connecting with children and supporting them the best way she knew how, through their bellies.

After her husband’s passing, Madaline continued to work at the Gray/New Gloucester school and moved in with her daughter-in-law, Carol Burbank. After many years of dedicated service, Madaline retired at the age of 82. In retirement, she shifted her focus from serving her community, to cherishing time with her family, eventually living with her daughter Karen for eight years.

Madaline Wagner was a beloved and cherished presence within her community and family. A matriarch that kept extended families connected and cherished. She had a great love for sweet treats and experimenting in the kitchen. In her earlier years you would often find her on a walk enjoying her time in the fresh air. In her spare time she enjoyed knitting, reading, spending time with family, and celebrating the milestones of those she loved.

Madaline was a steady and recurring light within her family; a matriarch that built a legacy of love, devotion, and connection. Through her care and guidance she created a family that is vibrant and full of life. Her family will honor her memory by carrying forward the warmth and strength she gave to all.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carle and Jennie Ilsley; sisters Marguerite Hayes and Avis Spear; first husband, Myles Burbank Sr., second husband, Robert Wagner; son, Myles S. Burbank Jr., and daughter, Brenda L. Burbank.
