One person was injured in a fire at an abandoned house in West Bath on Monday night.
The fire at 172 Fosters Point Road was reported just after 8 p.m. An “unknown individual” who did not own or rent the home suffered minor injuries, according to West Bath Fire Chief Jonathan Beane. Paramedics transported the individual to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor burns.
“Upon arrival, the fire was visible from the exterior of the structure [and] what we call a first alarm was pulled, that brought in mutual aid from surrounding towns,” Beane said.
Fire crews from West Bath, Bath, Phippsburg, Topsham, Brunswick and Woolwich extinguished the fire by 11:30 p.m. The house was considered a total loss and was demolished shortly afterward. Beane couldn’t confirm how long the house had been abandoned.
The state fire marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the fire.
