A Howland resident accused of arson was arrested Friday in connection with a 2022 fire at a business in town.

Just after 9 p.m. on Nov. 2, 2022, firefighters responded to a fire at the Howland Corner Store, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a news release Friday.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office conducted a criminal and financial investigation into the matter, Moss said, and a Penobscot County grand jury indicted a 39-year-old from Howland on charges of arson.

The investigation remains ongoing and additional charges and arrests are expected, Moss said.

Anyone with information that may help investigators is encouraged to contact the State Fire Marshal’s Office tip line at 888-870-6162.
