Thomasina W. Cole
WELLS – Thomasina W. Cole, 80, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, March 22, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on April 23, 1945, in Portland, the daughter of Thomas and Ethel (Miller) Walsh. Thomasina graduated from Deering High School and began her career in telephone services soon after. While working full time, she also completed two years of night classes at Boston College. She went on to build a successful career with New England Telephone Company, retiring as a Senior Executive.
In 1982, Thomasina followed her entrepreneurial spirit and purchased the Wells Lea Motel in Wells. For more than 22 years, she owned and operated the motel with pride, creating a warm and welcoming place for her guests. Her dedication and hospitality left a lasting impression on many and helped her form strong connections within the community.
She was a devoted member of St. Mary’s Parish in Wells.
Tommie found great joy in cooking, hosting gatherings, and bringing people together. Family celebrations and time spent with loved ones were at the heart of her life. She loved laughter, music, and winters spent at her home in Ocean Ridge, Florida. Her passion for music included visits to piano bars and attending concerts by artists such as Barbra Streisand, Neil Diamond, Tony Bennett, Billy Joel, and Jimmy Buffett.
Tommie also cherished the simple beauty of everyday life at her home on their horse farm in Wells. She enjoyed watching the changing seasons, the wildlife, and the flowers and trees around her. In quieter moments, she liked playing Words with Friends, always keeping her mind active. She especially treasured her daily sunrise walks on Moody Beach with her husband, Roland.
Above all, Thomasina will be remembered for her kindness, warmth, and generous spirit. She was a deeply loving presence in the lives of all who knew her and will be missed by her entire extended family and many dear friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Ethel Walsh; her sisters, Jane Waning and Mary Louise Eaton; and her godchild, Thomas Navarra.
Tommie is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, the Honorable Roland A. Cole; her son, Pierce T. Cole and his wife Paula; and their daughters Grace Mears and Sophie Mears; her sisters-in-law, Charlene Bailey (Bob), Cheryl Cole, and Roxane Cole; her nephews, Walter Eaton, Everett Eaton, John Eaton, and Peter Waning; her nieces, Rebecca Foley and Rachel Navarra; and many cherished friends.
A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 236 Eldridge Road, Wells.
