Jane Austen: frump or fashionista? Dee Rieber will explore the author’s fashion “sense and sensibility” as evidenced through her personal letters and novels at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 23, at the Rockland Public Library. The talk will be followed by a Regency-era fashion show.
Rieber is the regional coordinator for the Jane Austen Society of North America – Maine. JASNA Maine began meeting in 1979. In 1980, it became an official region of JASNA. The group currently has around 80 members and many more friends on their mailing list. JASNA Maine hosts many events and activities around the state that celebrate the literature, life and times of novelist Jane Austen (1775-1817). Events include talks, teas, movies, picnics, historic house tours, regency balls, a book club and more. Find out more at jasnamaine.org.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
You can read more here about our commenting policy and terms of use. More information is also found on our FAQs.
