KENNEBUNK — With 17 players returning from last year’s Class A runner-up squad, the Kennebunk girls lacrosse team hoped the transition into the 2026 campaign would be easy.

The Rams made it look seamless Thursday evening in their 15-4 season-opening win against Freeport.

Four players scored multiple goals for the Rams as they snapped Freeport’s 17-game winning streak. The Falcons are the reigning Class B champions.

“They executed every part of the field very well, (especially given) the amount of time that we’ve played so far,” Kennebunk coach Annie Barker said. “Very happy with the attack. They were patient, they waited, they saw the openings, and then they went. Draw circle people were great, and they were gritty on the circle and really fought. Defense, I think, did an amazing job.”

How it happened

• Kennebunk ripped off six straight goals in the first quarter. Senior midfielder Anna McCarron scored the first two, and sophomore attack Julianna Urban netted the next two on bounce-shots from the 8-meter mark. Senior attack Camdyn Keenan earned her second assist of the quarter on a goal by senior defender Madeline Dowling (two goals), before taking it in herself with 25 seconds left.

• Freeport’s Ella Tracy scored a free-position goal, and Gwen Dunham added another goal less than 20 seconds later off a pass from Isla Pattershall. Keenan, though, kept giving the Rams some separation with feeds to Ellie Nunan and Urban before popping in another goal. McCarron scored the hosts from free position before Claire Carter set up Tracy shortly before halftime to make it 10-3.

“My teammates know that I love to assist, so they’re always moving and cutting and they get open for me,” Keenan said.

• Kennebunk scored four more times to open the second half, before Freeport called a timeout to tighten its defense. Senior goalie Maddie Kryzak ended the third quarter with three straight saves and made a couple stops to start the fourth. Each team scored once in the final five minutes.
