Deborah Freeman Hunter
WESTBROOK – Deborah Freeman Hunter, 80, passed away at Northern Light Mercy Hospital in Portland surrounded by her family on April 10, 2026, after a brief illness.
Debbie was born in Westbrook on Jan. 19, 1946. She grew up in Westbrook and graduated from Westbrook High School in 1964. She married Robert M. Hunter in 1966, and together they settled in Westbrook and raised their family.
In addition to being a homemaker and mother to her two daughters, Debbie worked outside the home, including years at Fairchild Semiconductor and Data General. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, crossword puzzles, and watching old movies.
Debbie was a devoted Mom to her two daughters, Kelly and Robyn; and an adoring Nana to her granddaughters, Brooke and Cassandra. Debbie had the “gift of gab” and could strike up a conversation with anyone she met. She had the opportunity to use this gift while she and Bob operated booths at two flea markets. Debbie also had a great sense of humor and enjoyed sharing funny family stories from the past.
Debbie was a survivor of three different cancers during her life. Despite the struggles she faced as a result, she stayed strong and never gave up.
Debbie was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Robert M. Hunter; and her granddaughter, Brooke Sierra Trombley.
She is survived by her daughters, Kelly Morrell (Anthony) of Auburn, and Robyn Trombley (Wayne) of Westbrook; her sister, Donna G. Hann of New Hampshire; and her granddaughter, Cassandra Trombley of Sullivan.
The family would like to thank the dedicated staff at Northern Light Mercy Hospital for their care and attentiveness to Debbie during her stay.
In keeping with Debbie’s wishes, no service will be held.
