A 47-year-old woman from Augusta was arrested Friday after allegedly damaging three police cruisers while attempting to flee a traffic stop.
She is charged with operating a vehicle under the influence, assault and other counts.
Two of the cruisers were rendered inoperable until repairs are completed.
She was first seen driving erratically near 227 Maine Mall Road at 9:12 p.m. on Friday. She was stopped by a police officer, but refused to lower her window and fled the scene, according to a release from the city of South Portland.
She drove through multiple parking lots, making unsafe U-turns, police said. She struck one police cruiser while evading officers, but the officer inside the vehicle was not injured.
She struck another police cruiser head-on in the parking lot of the Dollar Tree on Maine Mall Road. The officer inside also was not injured.
The driver was apprehended and eventually transported to Cumberland County Jail, where she was charged with nine counts including assault, operating under the influence of drugs and failing to stop for an officer.
