Huck Trafton scored with 21 seconds left and Alec Delgado made a save as time expired to give second-ranked Bowdoin a 14-12 victory over No. 1 Tufts in an NCAA Division III men’s lacrosse game Wednesday night Medford, Massachusetts.
The Polar Bears (14-0) clinched the top seed in the upcoming NESCAC tournament, completed the program’s first undefeated regular season since 1989 and snapped the Jumbos’ 42-game winning streak.
Tufts, the two-time defending NCAA Division III champion, had not lost in 725 days since a 14-13 overtime defeat against Hamilton on April 27, 2024. It’ i’s Bowdoin’s first win over Tufts (14-1) since 2017, and the first road victory over the Jumbos since 2006.
Bowdoin led 5-1 after the first quarter and 9-5 at halftime.
A goal from Jackson Redd (one goal, five assists) gave Tufts its first lead at 10-9, but scores from Sam Raye-Steiner and Hudson Greene (four goals each) put the visitors ahead 12-10 again early in the fourth quarter.
Brooks Hauser (three goals) brought the hosts within one twice, but Trafton’s goal sealed the victory.
Chris Berry (three goals, one assist) and Casey Ryan (two goals, two assists) each contributed four points for Bowdoin. Delgado stopped 12 shots.
Bowdoin will host eighth-seeded Williams (7-8) in the NESCAC quarterfinals on Saturday.
