Authorities are searching for a missing paddleboarder on Graham Lake in Ellsworth.
Game wardens with the Maine Warden Service were dispatched to Graham Lake for the missing 20-year-old man at about 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday, the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife said in a news release Wednesday.
Authorities believe the man left his family camp on a paddleboard without a life jacket between 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Ellsworth police and fire department personnel had conducted an initial search of the Hancock County lake with drones and watercraft, according to the press release. Game wardens joined the search that afternoon, utilizing watercraft, a plane, and a Maine Forest Service helicopter.
Dive teams from the warden service, marine patrol and state police also joined the search, the department said.
Mark Latti, a spokesperson for Inland Fisheries & Wildlife, said officials were still looking for the missing 20-year-old around 9:15 p.m. Wednesday. Crews planned to search “into the night” using boats equipped with side-scan sonar, he said.
Ellsworth is at the southern edge of Graham Lake, which is flanked by State Route 179 to the east and State Routes 180 and 181 to the west.
