SCARBOROUGH – Rebecca Mae Silver of Scarborough, Maine, passed away peacefully on Dec. 31, 2025, at the age of 81.
Born on August 3, 1944, Rebecca devoted much of her life to serving others. She proudly served with the Scarborough Fire Department as a Rescue Captain and was well known throughout the community for her compassion, strength, and dedication to helping those in need.
Rebecca was predeceased by her husband, John S. Silver; her children, Kevin Wayne Gelinas and Michelle Gelinas Hill; and her mother, Virginia C. Thomas.
She leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Jonathan L. Pellerin, Cortney Gelinas, Kevin James Gelinas, Cameron Tetreault, William Tetreault, and Chandler Smith; along with great-grandchildren, extended family members, and many lifelong friends.
Rebecca will be remembered for her quick wit, generous heart, and lifelong devotion to family, friends, and community.
A service to celebrate Rebecca’s life will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Hobbs Funeral Home, 671 RT 1 Scarborough. Visiting hours will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., followed by a memorial service from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A burial will take place at 1:00 p.m. at Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery.
