Spindlworks Arts Center is celebrating 50 years of creativity this year with an exhibition at Bowdoin College Art Museum. Spindleworks art will be the major show at the college this summer. Events run from May through September.

Spindleworks was founded in 1976 and became a program of Independence Association, whose shared mission is to assist individuals with disabilities in obtaining full and inclusive lives in their chosen communities, in 1978.

Schedule of events:

• May 15 – “Me, & Her, &I: Portraits” opening at Spindleworks Gardiner, 221 Water St., 5-8 p.m.

• May 20 – Bowdoin College Museum of Art opening event 1-2 p.m.; Gelato Fiasco social 2-3 p.m. with a premier of the new Gelato flavor, Spindelicious, at Kresge Auditorium, Bowdoin College.

• June 16 – Friday Night Artwalk “As We Rise” opening at Spindleworks, 4-7 p.m.

• July 10 – “All That Glitters” art opening and Block Party with The Leopard Girls music at
Spindleworks.

• July 16 – Spindleworks poetry and dance, with a publication party and poetry reading for a new “50 Years of Spindleworks” poetry collection, 4:30-6 p.m. at Kresge Auditorium, Bowdoin College.

• July 23 – Spindleworks Film and Video, 4:30-6 p.m. Beam Classroom, Bowdoin College.

• Aug. 14 – “Past, Present, and Our Future” opening at Friday night artwalk, Spindleworks, 4-7 p.m.

• Aug. 14 – “Kabloom” opening at Spindleworks Gardiner, 5-8 p.m.

• Sept. 11 – “Favorite Things” opening at Friday night artwalk, Spindleworks 4-7 p.m.
